RS-Say Again? News-what?
RSS allows you to keep track of every new job offer, pin board entry or just anything new that gets uploaded to SharmWomen without having to keep reloading the site. Using an RSS newsreader, you can subscribe to a free RSS feed that keeps you up to date with any new content we post to the site -- all in XML format that includes links to the full text of the article. RSS lets you decide what news you want to receive, what sources it comes from and how often you get it.
How do I get an RSS newsreader?
A number of RSS newsreaders are available -- it's best to research them yourself in order to find the one most tailored to your needs. But to get you started quickly, we've compiled a list of popular newsreaders available on the Web -- and yes, we've even tested some of them. However, SharmWomen does not claim responsibility for the accuracy or reliability of the information listed below. Additionally, all newsreader downloads and installations are done at your own risk.
FeedDemon RSS Reader for Windows: This is a commercial program, but you can try a free 30-day trial version. Note, however, that it requires the installation of Internet Explorer 6.
RSS-Newsreader Feedreader for Windows: This program is very easy to use (just type in the URL of a new feed and you're done). Another plus is that the interface is designed to look like a trusty e-mail program -- making it quite comfortable for users.
RSS-Newsreader Amphetadesk for Linux, Mac and Windows: This browser-integrated, platform-independent solution for displaying news feeds scored well in our test for its ease of use. Amphetadesk works in the background using the System Tray, loads selected news feeds and shows the headlines, teasers and pages in any standard browser.
SlashDock for MacOS X: An RSS reader for the Mac Dock.
NetNewsWire for MacOS X: A commercial program that is also available for a free 30-day trial. Requires the Safari 1.0 browser.
